For the first 35 years of my life I lived in the Metro-Detroit area. Eminem made Eight Mile Road famous and I lived 3 miles to the north of Detroit's northern boundary in the Eleven Mile and Van Dyke area. It was Macomb County, the home of the Reagan Democrats - middle class, blue collar families, auto workers. The street I lived on ended at the southern property line of the U.S. Army's Detroit Arsenal, where I heard the sound of M-60 and Abrams battle tanks running around the test track my whole young life. Back in the day, that plant had three full shifts running.
Detroit, like many other rust-belt cities, is in steep decline. I would not travel down Van Dyke Avenue into the city of Detroit in broad daylight, let alone at night. Detroit has become a truly awful place, despite what their media and Chamber of Commerce would tell you.
And as you can see below, it seems that in the vacuum created by the demise of the once-great titans of industry like General Motors and Ford, a culture of pornography and death has crept in. It's not all that surprising that the things mentioned below take place, but that they are heralded in Detroit's two major newspapers as being great things, things to be proud of. Welcome to New Orleans North or Vegas East.
If Detroit is trying this week to show the world that it's a great place to live, work and raise families, especially young girls, it is doing one heck of a bad job. When your chief export ceases to be manufactured goods and becomes Eminem you know you are in trouble.
God have mercy upon the City of Detroit.

"This city is on fire", Savant said. "Detroit has done itself proud."
"Friday night's Vivid Club/Jenna Bowl at the Zoo Bar was a bit of a um, bust because although some paid as much as $1000 (for a VIP ticket) to see the promised porn star exxxtraordinaire Jenna Jameson, she appeared for no more than 20 minutes. It was just after 1:00am when the heavens opened up and Jameson appeared, wearing a revealing, barely-there gold top and skintight blue jeans."
"Eminem turned around and mooned the crowd. He was quickly ushered backstage."
"Inside the party featured pinball machines, girls gyrating on bars, acrobatic acts from ropes on the ceiling, and roller babes on roller skates."
"Over at the Emerald Theater's WRIF 101-sponsored party Friday night there were go-go dancers, smoke machines and shot girls in schoolgirl outfits trolling the balcony, giving the east side hotties a run for their money."
