Family & Friends,
For quite a few years now, I've been a big fan of Charles Haddon Spurgeon. 6 or 7 years ago I purchased the 4-volume set of his Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit - a huge series of sermons preached by the Prince of Preachers.
The thing I love about the man (and all of Scripture for that matter) is that what he wrote back in England in the 1800s is still very relevant today. (Yes, my pomo friends, you heard right - something from WAY back in the 1800s is still very applicable to our super-sophisticated, ultra-modern hour.) :-) Spurgeon lamented "the conversation" when the conversation wasn't cool.
As a case-in-point, check out An Excellent Jeremiad from Mr. Spurgeon at Phil Johnson's PyroManiac weblog. Phil is the curator of The Spurgeon Archive .
Phil's blog is one of the best I've ever seen. Both the content and the graphics
are excellent. I credit Phil and his web site for introducing me to Spurgeon some years back.
My previous blog post below was on Brain McLaren's recent visit to Grand Rapids, and Spurgeon is right on the money when he deals with the so-called postmodern or "emergent" movement that has afflicted the church in the 21st century.

P.S. I had to look it up - a jeremiad is defined as follows: A literary work or speech expressing a bitter lament or a righteous prophecy of doom.
